Over the last 15 years, within some of the teams I have managed, some team members appeared to manage themselves, others needed a lot of input. There always seemed to be that one person who struggled to produce acceptable quality work on time.
One such person really struggled with larger pieces of work. I asked him to define what information he needed, why he needed it and how I should present it so that he could understand what was required. He came back the next day and excitedly told me that I had been communicating with him all wrong. He wanted all the details in writing whereas I had been giving him the big picture verbally. Now, when information is given in the style he needs, he completes tasks on time and to quality.
I used this knowledge, and my previous experience, to create WHIZZARD.
